McINTOSH MC901 est un bloc de puissance mono, mais deux canaux. En effet, sur le même châssis de 45 cm de large, le MC901 réunit un ampli à transistors de 600 WRMS et un ampli à lampes de 300 WRMS. Ces deux amplis sont destinés à alimenter la même enceinte selon le principe de la bi-amplification. Bien entendu, il faut que l'enceinte le permette, comme par exemple les Sonus Faber ou les Bowers & Wilkins, souvent associées aux amplis McIntosh. Il faut donc deux MC901 pour amplifier une paire d'enceintes et constituer un ensemble sans compromis capable d'atteindre le sommet de l'authenticité musicale.
